Annual Vince Herding Spring Fishing Derby Brings Families Together for a Day Outdoors

Young anglers and their families gathered at Kidder Recreation Area on Saturday, May 2, for the annual Vince Herding Spring Fishing Derby hosted by the Red River Area Sportsmen’s Club (RRASC).

A tradition spanning more than 30 years, the derby welcomed youth ages 18 and under for a fun-filled day of fishing, friendly competition, and outdoor adventure along the riverbanks.

With sunny skies and strong participation, approximately 120 kids and family members took part in this year’s event. The derby continues to honor the legacy of Vince Herding, one of the RRASC’s founding members whose passion for the outdoors and commitment to community helped shape the event into a longstanding local tradition.

Participants enjoyed lunch, prize giveaways, and the opportunity to compete for trophies awarded to the largest catches in several age groups and fish categories. Every participant also received a thank-you bag and door prize provided by the RRASC.
